Getting paid

When escrow releases, how payouts reach your bank, and how to check your payout status.

You get paid when a sale completes. On MerkatoHQ, “completes” has a precise meaning — it’s worth knowing so you can predict your cash flow.

When the money is released to you

Escrowed funds are released to you in one of two ways:

  • The buyer confirms receipt. This is the normal path and it’s immediate — the moment the buyer confirms, the sale amount (price minus commission) becomes yours.
  • A dispute is resolved in your favour. If a buyer disputes, funds stay held until our team resolves it; a resolution in your favour releases them.

There is no automatic timer. MerkatoHQ does not auto-release a buyer’s payment after a fixed number of days — release happens on the buyer’s confirmation or a dispute resolution. Good communication and fast, accurate fulfilment are what get you paid quickly.

From release to your bank

Once funds are released, they’re paid out through Stripe Connect to the bank account you set up during onboarding. The transfer to your bank follows Stripe’s standard payout schedule for your account and region.

Checking your status

Your payout onboarding and status are visible in your account. If payouts aren’t enabled, you’ll be prompted to finish Stripe onboarding — and note you can’t publish new listings until payouts are enabled (see Getting started).

Your earnings, minus fees

What lands is your sticker price minus commission. For a standard sale under $1,000 that’s 92% of the price. The full breakdown, with examples, is on Fees explained. For your records and taxes, see Tax statements.
